Seychelles’ Red Cross at 10th Red Cross/Red Crescent Pan-African conference |18 September 2023
The Red Cross Society Seychelles is being represented at the 10th Red Cross /Red Crescent Pan-African conference taking place in Nairobi, Kenya from September 15 to 20, 2023.
The conference under the theme ‘Reinvesting in Africa’, brings together around 54 Red Cross Societies from Africa, the International Federation of Red Cross and their partners, to deliberate and reflect on current humanitarian issues on the continent and plan for the next four years.
The Red Cross Society of Seychelles is represented by its vice-president, Audrey Adam; the secretary general, Marie-May Esparon; and the organisation’s youth representative, Julinio Nourrice.
In a communique, Mr Nourrice, who is among 53 youth representatives, stated he has been able to engage with his counterparts to see how their societies are faring, the progress so far, exchange ideas and share the various challenges impacting their work.
“It has been an interesting session so far,” he stated, adding they will be voting to elect two committees that will review the 2017 youth report.
The conference will also see the election of a new youth committee of the Red Cross/Red Crescent for Africa.
The organisation is also taking part in various other activities on the sideline of the conference, which brings together around 200 delegates.
The secretary general of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles is a reporter on one of the commissions that is addressing the issue of migration.
