Comoros secure hosting rights for 12th Games, Maldives to follow next in 2031 |01 September 2023

It is official. The Comoros will host the 12th Indian Ocean Islands Games in 2027, while the Maldives have been assigned responsibility of the 2031 Games.

The decision was taken yesterday during the meeting of the Games International Committee (CIJ) in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The Comorian representative will receive the Games’ flag on Sunday during the official closing ceremony at the Mahamasina Stadium.

During the meeting, the bidding countries – the Comoros, Maldives, and Mayotte – did not have the right to vote, and the Comoros were chosen unanimously by Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion, and Madagascar.

“It is a great joy, and pride to have been chosen,” exclaimed Ibrahim Mze Mohamed, president of the Regional Olympic and Sports Committee of the Comoros, adding that it is a challenge which they will be able to meet.

The Comoros previously made a bid to host the Games but were not successful due to lack of adequate infrastructure.
