Seychelles humiliated by Reunion in opening group match
The Seychelles women’s basketball selection have to perform miracles if they want to go further at the ongoing 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games, following their humiliating 21-109 defeat at the hands of Reunion yesterday at the Palais des Sports of Mahamasina, in Madagascar.
The Seychellois players were outpaced by their opponents from the get go, losing the first quarter 3-28.
In the second quarter of the match, the players of coach Lenon Sherman suffered more beatings from Reunion, scoring only seven points compared to 24 for their opponents, concluding he first half on a crushing 52-10 lead for Reunion.
Having smelled blood, Reunion kept pounding on the disorganised Seychellois squad, chipping in another 34 points, while Seychelles added only two more to their tally, concluding the third quarter 86-12.
In the fourth and final quarter, Seychelles scored nine more points, while Reunion threw in 23 more to easily win the match 109-21.
Seychelles’ next match will be against Maldives.
