Three silver and three bronze medals on day three
Yesterday was the third day of the weightlifting competition at the ongoing Indian Ocean Islands Games in Madagascar, where Team Seychelles added six more medals— three silver and three bronze – to their tally.
Seychelles’ three silver medals were from Joelita Coloma who competes in the women’s 76kg category, after finishing second overall.
Coloma snatched 86kg to finish second, before lifting 106kg in clean and jerk, also earning her the second overall spot for an Olympic total of 192kg.
Seychelles’ other three medals were from seasoned lifter Terrence Dixie in the 102kg category.
Dixie snatched 115kg, before lifting 130kg in clean and jerk for an Olympic total of 245kg, earning him the third spot overall, and three bronze medals.
It is also worth noting that on Sunday, during day two of the competition, Rick Confiance who competes in the 73kg category won three silver medals, after snatching 121kg which is a new national record, and lifting 145kg in clean and jerk for an Olympic total of 266kg.
Also in action yesterday were Janet Georges and Brenda Lozaique in the 81kg category and they unfortunately finished fourth and fifth overall respectively.
Georges snatched 71kg and lifted 85kg in clean and jerk for an Olympic total of 156kg, while Lozaique snatched 55kg and lifted 70kg in clean and jerk for an Olympic total of 125kg.
