Commissioner of the Seychelles Police Force Ted Barbé visited the Botswana Police Service on a benchmarking mission on Tuesday, touring their headquarters and police college to gain insight on police operations in the African nation.

The commissioner’s visit was inspired by the launch of the Seychelles Police Force (SPF) strategic plan of 2023-2025 to help in the transformation of the Seychelles Police Force. The plan’s main objective is to professionalise police services in the country in order to ensure the safety and security of the people of Seychelles.

In his remarks, Mr Barbé said some of the strategies to help transform the SPF included improving on policing technology, infrastructure and capacity building of their human resource.

He said it was very important to know how other police organisations were doing it, hence his visit to the Botswana Police Service (BPS), which is much advanced in its policing which is ranked as one of the best in Africa.

For his part, the acting commissioner of Botswana police, Phemelo Ramakorwane stated that Mr Barbé’s visit would strengthen bonds between the two organisations.

He noted that such collaborations go beyond sharing of information, but rather build lasting relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.

The acting commissioner was accompanied by directors from different branches of the BPS who shared their main duties to the visiting commissioner.

The Seychelles commissioner of police also visited several BPS establishments, observed their operations and interacted with officers.

Mr Barbé was also taken to Safer City Project live control centre for a better insight into Botswana’s police street camera monitoring, dispatch and command centres.

Following his visit, Mr Barbé stated that he was inspired by the dedication and resourcefulness of the BPS to provide safety and tranquility to the citizens of Botswana.
