ABC Sports Swimming School tests over 120 children in water confidence

• Former national swimming pool director John Marie honoured

In its effort to help in producing the country’s next generation of swimmers, the ABC Sports Swimming School recently awarded over 120 children following successful completion of tests at various levels in water confidence, while former director of the national swimming pool John Marie was also honoured by the school for his long and loyal service towards the development of swimming in the country.

The kids were tested at three different levels, including water babies which is for babies from four months old to three years old toddlers, and in these sessions the parents have to be in the pool with the children.

There are five levels in this group, and during the presentation ceremony, the babies received certificates for water confidence one, water confidence two, bronze level and silver level, while none have reached the gold level yet.

The other group is the mini swimmers group, aimed at children aged three years old and above.

The mini swimmers group also contains five levels and all the children received certificates for the levels they attained.

For children who received the gold level certificate, they will now move on to the next group which is the super swimmer group.

This group caters to children of all ages who can swim but need a little help in technique and endurance.

During the presentation, seven swimmers received their bronze level in the super swimmer group. Unlike the other two groups there are only three levels in this group.

A special guest at the ceremony was Mr Marie who has played a big role in the development of swimming in Seychelles.

On behalf of all its members, an ABC Sports’ representative presented him with a gift to commemorate all his years of dedication to the sport.

The ABC Sports is a swimming school opened last year, which caters to daycares and younger children. Its main aim is to have children embrace this skill as young as possible.

The ABC thanks all the dedicated parents who took the initiative to gift their child with this important lifesaving skill and the daycares and schools who have worked with them since inception.
