Chinese embassy donates 20 medical bags to English River Health Centre

The hand over ceremony

The Chinese embassy has made a donation of 20 medical bags to the English River Health Centre.

This was made possible following discussions between the Mayor’s office and the Chinese embassy.

Yesterday the chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese embassy Mu Jianfeng, handed over the 20 medical bags to the acting Mayor of Victoria, Lydia Charlie.

Mr Mu noted that this act was “very meaningful for our country and the Mayor’s office as we are contributing in helping the community. I am sure that the bags will be helpful to the medical staff when they attend to the people in the community. Of course our logo on the bags shows our friendship and we hope that our collaboration becomes stronger year after year”.

Acting Mayor Charlie thanked the Chinese embassy and noted that once again China has shown it is always ready to assist Seychelles.

“The donation of the 20 medical bags will be very useful when our medical professionals are out in the field as they would be ideal for the storage of important tools and equipment. This will ensure a more efficient and professional service to people of all walks of life,” said Ms Charlie.

Ms Charlie also pointed out that the long-standing partnership between Seychelles and China also touches at a more direct level; the very core of all bilateral relationships, that is the people.

“Our diplomatic relations are also characterised by deep understanding and a win-win partnership, as we keep with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges to strengthen and expand our unique ties. These ties, based on friendship, mutual trust and respect, have stood the test of time and need to be consolidated further. We are deeply grateful for the support of good friends such as China.”

Dr Adrian Garcia, acting principal medical officer, Community Health Services, also thanked the Chinese embassy and shared that this donation will support them to give better health care to the people of the community and make the life of the staff easier.

Marie-Helene Niole, nurse manager at English River Health Centre, explained how the nurses and doctors will use the bags. “These bags are not available in Seychelles and our services really need them for storage of equipment. It is a small gesture from the Chinese embassy but its contribution to the community is greater than that,” she stated.
