Mont Fleuri crèche gets fresh look   |24 July 2023

Mont Fleuri crèche gets fresh look

The Mont Fleuri crèche now has a fresh look following a clean-up and embellishment work on Saturday.

The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) along with the Mont Fleuri school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) organised the work at the Mont Fleuri crèche in collaboration with youths from the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA).

From 9am onwards they were busy scraping and painting, giving the crèche a facelift in time for this week’s first school day – Monday. This was in a relaxed and fun ambiance with beautiful music playing in the background.

SNYC’s programme officer, Sabrina Dick, explained that the programme was initially launched on July 8 as the organisation thought it was a perfect opportunity to give back to the community.

“Our minister, Marie-Celine Zialor, has explained that SNYC no longer has one youth worker in each district. Nowadays as programme officers we initiate the programmes and present them to the youths, so they can choose the one they want to get involved with,” explained Ms Dick, adding they also facilitate the setting up of clubs of interest and those who want to do their own clubs can do so.

According to Ms Dick, Saturday’s cleaning activity had nothing to do with the unfortunate events of the recent rat infestations.

She thanked the SNYC, the Mont Fleuri crèche and the Seychelles Breweries for providing the palettes that the participants were using to paint with.

“I would also like to thank SFRSA and the principal secretary for youth and sports, Ralph Jean-Louis, who came to check up on us today,” she added.

Meanwhile, Ms Dick explained that the project will not be restricted to the Mont Fleuri district, but rather on a national level. Youths aged from 15 to 35 who are willing to join the SFRSA youth brigade can do so as they also plan to have a branch on Praslin and La Digue. The SNYC is also inviting young people willing to take part in its programmes to contact Marie-May Larue on 2812283 at the SNYC office for more details.
