CWS grooms tertiary students for future career paths

Cable and Wireless Seychelles (CWS) has launched a campaign to provide practical training to tertiary students through a series of workshops and practical exercises.

The campaign is targeting students at tertiary level who are about to join the world of work and is being spearheaded by members of the telecom company’s dynamic marketing team.

As of now, CWS has partnered with two institutions, namely the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) and the University of Seychelles (UniSey).

During its recruitment process, the company identified a gap in the market among younger job-seekers which made it more challenging to fill out certain posts.

The workshop’s emphasis was on empowering fresh graduates to gain first-hand knowledge and build the necessary skillset as skills-based hiring is becoming increasingly popular.

Presentations were led by subject-matter experts and participants engaged in scenario-driven sessions where learning was enriched through sharing of ideas and experiences.

The key areas of the training introduced the students to people skills, marketing and sales skills, as well as technical product training.

There are currently thirteen students enrolled in the programme and the company is receiving the support of the two institutions, pleased with the opportunity presented to the students.

At this point in time, the training is meant to last for a period of one month until the end of July.

The company envisions that this may be extended and that in the future, students from other institutions will have the opportunity to be part of the campaign and acquire similar skills to make them stand out as prospective candidates.
