The official website of the upcoming 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games 2023 scheduled to take place in Madagascar from August 23 to September 3 is now operational, giving a complete overview of the events, including sports facilities, accommodation and calendar competitions.

The site – jioi2023.org – also features the welcoming message of the president of the Games’ organising committee (Coji), Malagasy Minister for Youth and Sports André Haja Resampa.

In his message, Mr Resampa described the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) as being driven by strong solidarity between all the members involved.

He added that solidarity translates into mutual encouragement, constant support and deep camaraderie, creating an atmosphere of unity and support where everyone contributes to the collective success of the Games.

Mr Resampa further added that beyond competition, the solidarity of the members manifests itself through sincere sharing and harmonious collaboration.

“Athletes encourage each other, while officials ensure the fairness and integrity of the competitions,” added Mr Resampa.

This strong solidarity, he said, is the pillar of the IOIG, underlining the importance of unity and mutual aid in order to achieve great accomplishments together.

For the 11th Games, the Novotel Convention and Spa in Ivandry will be transformed into the Games village.

The establishment is in the centre of the capital and is a few minutes away from the sports venues.

According to Mr Resampa, Madagascar is ready to host the Games, while completion of the renovation work on the competition venues is scheduled for the end of July.

Some of the equipment for the competition are already in place, with the rest scheduled to arrive soon.

The Barea Stadium in Mahamasina, the Maki Stadium in Andohatapenaka, the CNAPS Sports Complex in Vontovorona, and the Mahamasina Sports Gymnasium are some of the competition venues in the capital.
