New programme launched to enhance financial literacy |10 July 2023
Nouvobanq, in collaboration with the University of Seychelles, has launched a new programme which is expected to improve financial literacy among the mass.
The Financial Awareness Programme will target secondary and post-secondary students, workers in organisations and the physically challenged.
This official of the programme launch took place in a ceremony at the Nouvobanq House on Saturday.
The programme will cover various topics in regards to financial education including but not limited to preparing personal budget, saving and investing one’s money, credit definition, credit information system and debt repayment, e-banking, theft prevention and cyber-crime, among others.
The aim of this programme is to improve financial literacy and educate the mass on financial matters with the hope that more people will become versed in elements of budgeting, saving, spending and investing.
The chief executive of Nouvobanq, Christophe Edmond, said that the programme is a nationwide project that ties in well with requirements from the Central Bank to educate the mass on financial matters.
“We need to be sure that we are providing individuals and communities with the level of financial education needed to grasp both the benefits and pitfalls of easy access to financial services,” he said.
Paul Kangethe, the programme leader from UniSey, said that the programme will help nationally in terms of cutting down spending due to knowledge gained.
“Too much spending can cause inflation which can be devastating to a country and this programme can also help with building up national savings which will in return help the economy,” he said.
The programme will last for five years and is open to any individual without charge. Applications can be done at the Nouvobanq House and at UniSey.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of tokens from Nouvobanq to students from different schools that attended the launch.
