11th Indian Ocean Islands Games 2023 – Madagascar Final selections named |08 July 2023
Following the submission deadline for all sporting federations and associations for the 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games 2023 scheduled to take place in Madagascar from August 23 to September 3, which was on June 30, all governing bodies have complied with the registration deadline.
At the 11th Games, Seychelles will be taking part in 15 sporting disciplines, namely athletics (including handi-sports), badminton, basketball (5x5 and 3x3), boxing, cycling, football, weightlifting, handball, judo, karate, swimming (including handi-sports), petanque, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
The only discipline Seychelles is not taking part in are wrestling, taekwondo, rugby and kick-boxing.
According to a National Sports Council (NSC) spokesman, the Seychelles Rugby Association declined to take part due to insufficient Seychellois players for the national team.
The Seychelles Boxing Federation has selected 13 pugilists across different weight classes to represent Seychelles in Madagascar.
They are Tino Gabriel (48kg), Arshild David (52kg), Dario Gabriel (54kg), Sebastiano Pierini (57kg), Fabio Roselie (60kg), Greth Estico (63.5kg), Shain Boniface (67kg), Jovani Bouzin (71kg), Joushua Couzin (75kg), Dashil Fanchette (80kg), Adrian Laporte-Durup (86kg), Dyan Vidot (92kg) and Keddy Agnes (92+kg).
They will be under the guidance of coaches Gerry Legras, Rival Payet and Roland Raforme, while Edmond Folette will be the team manager.
Judges John Figaro and Nelson Molle will also be part of the team.
For badminton, 12 players – six males and six females – have been selected to represent the country in Madagascar.
They are Allisen Camille, Aurelie Jean-Louis, Jessy Mancienne, Luo Xiang, Juliette Way-Hive, Setal Jayesh (females), Jakim Renaud, Lue Jie, Aaron Malcouzane, Steve Malcouzane, Ryan Boniface and Yohan Didon (males).
They will be accompanied by coaches Joel Dubel and Shirley Etienne, while Jean-Paul Raguin will be the team manager.
Petanque will also be represented at the 11th Games, with the local contingent featuring 23 players (15 males and 8 females).
The selected players are Sheila Chang-Time, Vivianne Finesse, Marie-Ange Joubert, Marie-May Savy, Virna Fanny, Sheila Hafner, Lorraine Uzice and Hidy Joubert (females), Raj Jhugroo, Fabien Chang-Time, Roy Meriton, Collin Esparon, Shane Benoit, Rai Jhugroo, Antoine Botsoie, Giovanni Ceccato, Auguste Louise, Bernard Denis, Armstrong Jean, Joseph Sinon, Danny Bonte, Andrew Robert and Vincent Luther (males).
