Gran Kaz has delivered a second batch of promised goods which include Braille materials and audio books to Plaisance secondary school, as part of the partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The Gran Kaz PR and communications manager, Shama Amesbury, explained that this is the second part of the donation following the first earlier this year.

“It was a joint project between Gran Kaz and the Ministry of Education,” she stated.

The first half of the donation was given in January of this year and the rest of the consignment arrived about a week ago.

The donation took place at Plaisance secondary school yesterday morning.

She stated that Gran Kaz always tries to do something to give back to the community and last year for World Literary Day in September, it hosted a book bazaar at the Kenwyn House, to share and encourage the love of literature.

To further expand on this idea, Gran Kaz sought out to share the love and need for literature through supporting the inclusive learning programme.

“We found out through discussions that we are in need of Braille materials. For somebody who is not visually impaired it is as simple as walking into a library and getting a book but in Seychelles, Braille books are not readily available,” she commented.

Head teacher of Plaisance secondary school, Jenny Kilindo, thanked Gran Kaz on behalf of the Ministry of Education. “We know that one of the challenges is having enough resources to cater for students. As we move towards becoming a more inclusive school, we know that resources for the different students with different needs is also a challenge,” she stated.

She noted that despite having only one visually impaired student in the school, the materials will be useful to future students with visual impairments.

“This donation will help us develop our skills and help us be better equipped to help the future ones who will be coming to the school. My message to the students that will be using it, this is a great opportunity that you will be having.”

Following the short donation ceremony, the students were able to view the various audio books and sample the Braille material.
