Nouvobanq hosts on site blood drive event jointly with Blood Transfusion Unit

Mr Edmond hands over to Ms Banda a number of stress balls

A number of employees from Nouvobanq took part in a blood drive event last week at the Nouvobanq House building in Victoria.

The activity, organised by Nouvobanq in collaboration with the Blood Transfusion Unit in the Ministry of Health, coincided with the World Blood Donor Day celebrated on June 14 under the theme ‘Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often’.

The initiative supports the Blood Transfusion Unit’s strategic objective for having availability of adequate blood supply in the blood bank, which is crucial to save lives.

The chief executive of Nouvobanq, Christophe Edmond, who was present at the event, took the opportunity to reiterate the bank’s support towards the blood drive.

He also handed over to the senior programme officer in the Blood Transfusion Unit, Elizabeth Banda, a number of stress balls, ideal for helping to calm the nerves of donating patients, during the blood donation.

The senior health officer at Nouvobanq, Sandra Sabury, said that the majority of participants in the blood donation activity are first time blood donors and that the bank is targeting to host this event every four months henceforth.

Those who took part had various reasons for donating blood including; wanting to save people who have been involved in accidents, saving women who experience complications at child birth, the desire to simply donate for a good cause and for some, they were donating due to personal past incidents where blood donation was vital.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the blood drive.
