Football: Legend Foundation – Charity match for Gonzague Boniface |15 June 2023
Mahé and Inner Islands legends to clash in solidarity with Gonzague Boniface
After its successful inaugural event last year where a substantial monetary contribution was made towards the health expenses of former St Louis and Seychelles international player Vincent ‘Tolor’ Dorasamy, the Legend Foundation will host its second event on Saturday June 24, at Stad Popiler, this time to support another of their own, namely ex-Plaisance and Seychelles no-nonsense central defender and referee Gonzague Boniface.
For the second event, the foundation will be working in partnership with the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps), of which they are an affiliated member.
The event will feature a match between ‘football legends’ from Mahé under the guidance of coach Ulric ‘Keker’ Mathiot, against their counterparts from the inner islands who will receive instructions from coach James Barra.
Speaking to Sports NATION, chairman of the Legend Foundation Don Anacoura explained that only part of funds collected will go towards the medical expenses of Mr Boniface, while the rest will be put in a special fund which will be used for similar causes, whenever needed.
He said for the match, they have selected mainly players who are over the age of 50 years and played for the Seychelles national selection.
Mr Anacoura added that, since the event will fall within the period of activities for the National Day celebrations, the foundation decided to include it to the official calendar.
Tickets for the event are already on sale at R50.
Founded last year, the Legend Foundation is an engaged community for the recognition and well-being of past legendary Seychellois football players, by conducting charitable activities for charity purposes for past football players.
The objective of the foundation is to encourage sportsmanship and recognition beyond competitive sports, while creating a platform to bring along former football players.
It also supports projects to make a difference and give back to former football players.
