Nine medals for Khema Elizabeth at regional championships
Local swimmer Khema Elizabeth left her mark at the recently held Winter National Swimming Championship at the sports complex of Côte d’Or in Mauritius, grabbing nine medals, including one of the gold hue.
Representing her affiliated swimming club, the Adventure Sports Club, Elizabeth, who was accompanied by coach Vanessa Narty, harvested nine medals ‒ one gold, seven silver and one bronze.
Her gold medal came in the 400m freestyle (girls 18 years and over) where she clocked 5 minutes 12.91 seconds (5:12.91).
She won her seven silver medals in 50m butterfly (girls 18 years and over) in 30.52 seconds, 100m butterfly (girls 18 years and over) in 1:13.73, 50m freestyle (girls 18 years and over) in 28.46 seconds, 100m freestyle (open category) in 1:02.22, 50m butterfly (open category) in 30.19 seconds, 100m freestyle (girls 18 years and over) 1:02.69, and 50m freestyle (open category) in 28.24.
As for the bronze medal, she won it in the 200 freestyle (girls 18 years and over), clocking 2:22.53.
Elizabeth’s trip was fully funded by her affiliated club – Adventure Sports Club –, including that of her accompanying coach, with the approval of the National Sports Council (NSC).
