Brazilian female sentenced to 8 years for importation of controlled drug |27 May 2023

A Brazilian national, Amanda Dos Anjos, 32, has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment for the importation of controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 2016.

Her sentence was delivered last Thursday by Justice Mohan Burhan after the case was heard on May 15, 2023.

The accused, a first offender who was represented by counsel Joshua Revera, was convicted on her own plea of guilt.

According to evidence presented to the court on July 10, 2022, Ms Dos Anjos imported a controlled drug, namely a dark brown/khaki carton packet weighing 1921.41 grammes of cocaine with a purity content of 86 percent and a black/khaki carton packet weighing 1196.68 grammes of cocaine with a purity of 63 percent amounting to a total cocaine content of 3118.09 grammes. The total net weight was 4133.70 grammes.

She arrived in the country on board an Emirates flight from Dubai.

The prosecution was represented by counsel Ketlynn Marie.
