AMSA Seychelles has once again donated to the community, this time targeting the La Retraite home for the elderly.

A donation of household items including food products such as powdered milk, sugar and biscuits, as well as hygienic items namely toothbrush, hand sanitisers and bed pans, was made during a short ceremony yesterday morning at the residence.

This was in the presence of the Indian high commissioner, Karthik Pande, the director general of the Elderly and Disabled Division, Rosa Morin, staff and representatives of the AMSA health care  and residents of the home.

It was Mrs Morin who accepted the donation from Dr Kenneth Henriette, who is the medical director of AMSA Seychelles.

When thanking AMSA Seychelles, Mrs Morin said the Elderly and Disabled Division was honoured and grateful for such a donation.

“It is always a privilege when we see private organisations coming together to recognise and appreciate all the efforts of the elderly and this wonderful donation signifies that,” she said.

In his address, Dr Henriette said such a donation was fitting as it was a way of saying thank you and acknowledging the contribution made by this group of people, towards the country’s growth.

“With this donation today, we are trying again to give and show our commitment to and appreciation of them, so that they know they are cherished, are cared for and are not forgotten,” he said.

He added that AMSA Seychelles also wanted to show that its service was not restricted to dialysis only, which was its initial service, but that it was branching out into the community.

“We have branched out to become AMSA health care now, to bring health care to the community as a whole and not only a certain specific group,” he stated.

For his part, the Indian high commissioner said he was very happy to witness the good work being done by AMSA in Seychelles. “Taking care of the elderly is very important and it is very nice to see that the elderly in Seychelles, just as in India, is very well looked after,” he said.

The short ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Rachel Faure, a resident of the home.
