Message from Dr Patrick Herminie, president of the United Seychelles (US) party on the occasion of Labour Day |29 April 2023
‘May Day is a day when workers come together to share solidarity and celebrate the fruit of their labour’
“The United Seychelles party extends its gratitude to all workers of Seychelles on this auspicious day and salutes the role of labour in all our lives.
“International Labour Day is celebrated on the first of May and it is a day when workers come together to share solidarity and celebrate the fruit of their labour.
“May Day is also a time to reflect on the importance of decent work, social protection, sustainable development, and other issues that affect workers. These act as a reminder of the ongoing fight for workers’ rights and the necessity of ongoing advocacy and action to build a more equitable and just society.
“The progress that we have made today did not come by chance. It was through the visionary leadership, dedication and efforts of our forefathers and the hardworking people of this nation. Mr France Albert Rene, the architect of modern Seychelles, fought for equality, for better working conditions and paved the way for an acceptable social foundation that ensures common prosperity for our people. This year’s theme, ‘En lafors travayer dinamik pour en lekonomi solid’, has always been the mantra of our party since its foundation in 1964.
“The United Seychelles party will continue to advocate and fight for the fundamental principles and rights at work to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all workers.
“A special wish goes out to all the hard-working women and men standing valiantly to defend and protect the United Seychelles party’s principles.
“We also wish all workers in Seychelles a peaceful and safe celebration with family, colleagues and friends.”
