LDS pays tribute to Seychellois workers on the occasion of Labour Day |29 April 2023
“Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) is proud to pay tribute to the invaluable contribution of all Seychellois workers to our country.
“Today we commend your contribution and recognise the rights that go with them. But Labour Day, celebrated on May 1 annually, is not enough to honour all that you do for the economic and social well-being of the people of Seychelles and the development of our country.
“LDS hopes the whole of Seychelles takes this time to acknowledge the hard work that has made our country what it is today as we collectively move forward with the aspiration for a Seychelles ‘pour tou son zanfan’. It is only through the shared vision and focus of hard-working men and women that Seychelles can be built better.
“LDS supports our government’s appeal for greater personal responsibility as a call to every worker. We believe in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. We must remain conscious of the threats to Seychellois workers unless we accept to bear responsibility for our individual well-being, that of our family, community and country.
“LDS congratulates the government in giving back to Seychellois workers the benefits that the country can afford. Such measures as the 10 percent increase in public sector wages, resumption of the 13th month salary payment, reduction of electricity tariffs and others have permitted workers to face the increases in the cost of living which are unavoidable for our country.
“We recognise that our government has also shown its commitment to facilitating the profitability of the private sector with such measures as reduction in business tax and the repeal of CRS tax. We urge the private sector to implement the 10% salary increase so that all workers in Seychelles will benefit from the economic recovery that we have experienced.
“For its part, LDS will continue to give all its support to measures which will deliver benefits for workers and contribute to protection of all their rights, and safe and healthy work conditions.
“LDS wishes all workers a happy and safe celebration of Labour Day and success in all their endeavours during the year.”
