Message from PS for Trade, Francis Lebon, on World Intellectual Property Day |26 April 2023

‘We should not only be diverse in culture but in our businesses also’

“Across the world innovation and creation is a tool used for boosting businesses and transforming economies. At the heart of these changes lies the many contributions of girls and women in the IP arena. So much has been attained by setting of new trends, finding solutions affecting local economies, scientific breakthroughs and creations.

“The vast benefits that can be achieved by inclusion of women and girls means we are all winners at the end, women are the drivers of many societies thus their innovativeness, creativeness and contributions go a long way in shifting the mind-set and livelihood of those around them.

“This year’s theme ‘Women and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity’ accentuates the need to acknowledge the many contributions made by women in all societies including those in Seychelles. Seychellois woman writers, musicians, poets, authors, performers, fashion designers and policy makers are constant drivers of change as they strive to close the gap between men and women so that they can be represented in all aspects of our society.

“We call on women and girls not only to protect their creativity but also to be an inspiration to others in order to establish thriving women led businesses in our country.

“We should not only be diverse in culture but in our businesses also, as this strengthens a more sustainable economy! The Trade department remains committed to enhance sensitization and forging awareness on the importance and benefits available through IP!”
