Accreditation of new high commissioner to Seychelles

The newly accredited high commissioner of Zambia to Seychelles, Joyce Kapampa Kasosa, presented her credentials to the Seychelles’ President, Wavel Ramkalawan, in a ceremony at Sate House yesterday morning.

Speaking to the local media shortly after, Mrs Kapampa Kasosa said during her encounter with the head of state, she had the opportunity to discuss several topics which focused on how to improve the relationship between Seychelles and Zambia. One of the main topics was human resources.

“Zambia had sent several teachers to Seychelles to help with human resource development and another process is ongoing,” she said.

Twenty-five Zambian doctors in twenty-five different fields are being recruited to work in Seychelles to support the country’s health sector.

Other sectors where the country hopes to assist with human resources vary from engineering to architecture.

President Ramkalawan and Mrs Papampa Kasosa also addressed the issue of trade. “We discussed trade between the two countries and emphasised that as African countries we need to support each other to develop in that area,” stated Mrs Kasosa.

Connectivity as well as communications between Zambia and Seychelles were also areas of concerns. “We discussed the many ways in which the two countries could have direct contact to support the many areas that we are engaging in,” she said.

On the matter of tourism, the high commissioner hoped the two countries could have connecting flights so tourists arriving in Seychelles could later fly on to Zambia to see what the countries have to offer.

Seychelles and Zambia also talked about deepening their relationship through a framework of co-operation that is currently under discussion to widen several areas of co-operation.

“I am looking forward to more engagements with the other ministries, and I am hoping to have a very fruitful engagement while I am here,” she concluded.

HC Kapampa Kasosa is expected to remain in the country until April 20 and will meet with officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as meet the Zambian teachers in Seychelles.

Besides her accreditation to Seychelles, the Zambian high commissioner, who will be based in Nairobi, is also accredited to Kenya and South Sudan.
