Seychelles to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day |18 April 2023
The World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is celebrated on April 26 of every year and the annual theme is selected by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of which Seychelles is a member since 2000. The theme for the year 2023 is: ‘Women and IP: accelerating innovation and creativity’’.
This theme is being re-used for the year 2023 with the aim of sensitizing, encouraging the involvement of women and girls in IP, as well as closing the gaps between women and men in IP field.
Thus, this year’s theme aims to further celebrate the work of trailblazing women around the world and raises awareness about why it is so important to encourage more women to participate in the IP system.
The Trade department and Registration Division in collaboration with the National Intellectual Property Committee will be organizing a number of workshops on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, on the benefits for businesses to register and protect their Intellectual Property Rights such as copyright works, brand names, and designs.
On Mahé the workshop will be on April 26 at 10am at Care House, while on Praslin it will take place at the Baie St Anne community centre on April 28 at 10.30am. The workshop on La Digue will also be on April 28, at 1.30pm at the community centre.
The workshops will showcase successes of Seychellois woman innovators/creators, while focusing on the benefits for businesses to register and protect their Intellectual Property Rights such as copyrighted works, brand names, and designs.
Representatives from the Seychelles Authors and Composer Society (Sacs), the Registration Division, Enterprise Seychelles Agency, and the Trade Division will also be present for further engagements and clarifications.
The National IP Committee calls upon all interested individuals to make use of these workshops to enhance their knowledge on intellectual property rights!
