Independent School

The graduates celebrate their achievements

A-Level class of 2022 graduate

The Independent School on Saturday celebrated the achievements of its A-Level graduating class of 2022.

The ceremony, held at Eden Bleu, included the CIE certificate-giving to 37 young men and women who are starting new jobs or tertiary education this year.

The students wore blue gowns and caps as they stepped on stage to receive their hard-earned certificates in front of their parents, teachers, classmates, and special guests.

The ceremony, MC’d by Dina Shirley, also included Academic Awards for those who achieved the highest mark in their subject, and a Medal of Honour for the cohort’s valedictorian, Turissa Sullivan.

The chairperson of the school’s board of directors, Radley Webber, presented Turissa with the medal along with a gift of €500 he donated.

In her vote of thanks, Turissa commented that “these last two years have been a challenge for us all, and the fact that we are here today is a testament to our resilience and an indication that we have a great future to look forward to”.

She also reminded her fellow graduates that, “we all have the potential to continue building up our country and making real and long-lasting impacts on our communities”.

For the first time this year, one student was awarded the President’s Cup. Kavish Gunatilake, who was recognised for both his academic and extra-curricular achievements, was presented the cup by President Wavel Ramkalawan along with a gift of a laptop computer. Kavish is the youngest student to graduate from Independent School.

The ceremony started with words of reflection by the school’s principal, Andy Esparon, who recalled the achievements of the graduating class, and ended with a warm send off by a parent, Mrs Venkatkrishnan.

The school is thankful to all who helped make the day memorable, and very proud of its graduating students.
