Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Radegonde receives AfDB executive director

Minister Radegonde welcomes Mr Nzayikorera at Maison Quéau de Quinssy

The executive director for the East Africa Constituency on the board of directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) group, Jonathan Nzayikorera, reaffirmed AfDB’s commitment to supporting the National Development Strategy of Seychelles.

Mr Nzayikorera made this statement during his courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, on Monday April 3 at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

He commended the government of Seychelles, under the guidance of President Wavel Ramkalawan, for its vision and leadership on governance matters, citing Seychelles’ high ranking on the Human Development Index and the Mo Ibrahim Index, respectively, recognising the smooth transition of power following the outcomes of the last general elections.

Minister Radegonde, shared the prospects for the tourism industry, “we are targeting an income of US $1 billion from tourism in 2023,” he noted. He elaborated on the department’s objectives to increase revenue yields by appealing to new and diversified tourism markets, diversifying local products and services, and encouraging tourism activities in local communities.

Mr Nzayikorera was accompanied on his visit by Ronald Cafrine, whom the government of Seychelles nominated as senior advisor to the executive director of the AfDB. Mr Cafrine is also based in Cote d’Ivoire.
