Anse Royale primary school gets donation of books |04 April 2023
The Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) and their member Fregate Island Resort have donated over 100 reading books to the Anse Royale primary school.
This sponsorship was done through the Resort’s foundation called Fregate Island Foundation.
The handover of the books by the managing director of Fregate Island Resort, Hilton Grant Hastings, was held yesterday morning at the Labriz Gastro lounge in Bel Ombre.
The member of the National Assembly for Anse Royale, Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, and the secretary general of the SCCI, Iouana Pillay, were there to witness the event.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Pillay stated that the day marked the beginning of a long term commitment that SCCI and the private sector wish to make to the community and the Ministry of Education.
The SCCI was approached by Hon. Lemiel, who informed them that the Anse Royale primary school library was in great need of reading books.
“As we all know education is knowledge transfer, which is one of the major powerful tools ever existed in the world. It is important to make learning continuous because this gives people the skills they need to adapt and keeping pace with knowledge and technological changes in their everyday life,” she said. SCCI also announced it will be making more book donations and conducting training programmes in the near future.
For his part, Mr Hastings thanked the SCCI and the MNA for the privilege of allowing Fregate Island Foundation to make a tangible contribution through the donation of the books.
“I hope that as their young fingers walk through the pages of these books that their young minds learn how to wander and discover the joy and adventure and knowledge held within their pages,” he said.
For her part, Hon. Lemiel said that she was very grateful for the generous donations from SCCI and Fregate Island Foundation.
“I am so happy today that we have through Miss Pillay and SCCI managed to realise this project for the children of Anse Royale,” she concluded.
