Basketball: Curtain-raiser 2023

Defending champions Premium Cobras and PLS Hawks have been drawn in group A

St Louis Saints and MBU Boys to set the ball rolling this evening

The 2023 basketball season will be officially tipped-off this afternoon with the first match in the curtain-raiser tournament between second divisioners St Louis Saints and MBU Boys.

For the competition, the two have been drawn in group A for men’s division two, alongside the Bel Air Basketball Academy (Baba) and Praslin Boys.

Group B for the same division features Mont Fleuri Ballerz, Anse Royale, PLS Suns, and newcomers PTL Thunder and PLS Legends.

In the top flight, the ten teams have also been drawn in two groups, with group A featuring PLS Hawks, newly promoted Anse Etoile, defending champions Premium Cobras, Mont Fleuri Dawgz and Cascade Bullets who are also new in the division.

As for group B it is made up of Drifters, last season’s doubles winners Beau Vallon Heat, newcomers AB Boys, Baya and MBU Rockers.

After the group stages, winners of each group will play against the runners-up of the other groups in the knock-out stages.

In the women’s competition, the only four registered teams – Anse Etoile Stars, B Challenge, Hot Shots and Mont Fleuri Ladies – will engage into a league, before battling in a knock-out where the winner will clash against fourth-place finisher and runners-up will play against the team who finish third.
