Athletics - SAF puts all competitions on hold until facilities are brought up to standards |03 March 2023
No official track and field athletics competitions will take place locally until the facilities at both stadia ‒ Stad Linite and Stad Popiler ‒ are brought up to standards, the Seychelles Athletics Federation has said.
In a statement released yesterday, Seychelles Athletics Federation (SAF) chairman Selby Dora said the local athletics body is unable to organise World Athletics recognised national competitions for the year 2023 as per its competition calendar.
“Having considered the status of the track and field facilities at both stadia the SAF executive committee has decided that it is not in the best interest of the health and safety of registered athletes to compete on the track and certain facilities,” wrote Mr Dora.
He added that the SAF executive committee’s position has been officially communicated to both the relevant national authorities and World Athletics.
Meanwhile, he added the SAF executive committee maintains dialogue with the relevant national authorities on the status of the track and field facilities which has been an object of national concerns for a while.
He explained that the SAF executive committee will review its position in consultation with the relevant national authorities taking into consideration the improvement status of the facilities in question.
