‘Making dreams come true’ |25 February 2023
Inaugural challenge set for tomorrow
Enthusiastic runner Joel Melanie will begin his 2023 charity challenges tomorrow, under the umbrella of the Runners of Charity, with all profits going towards assisting two boys who are suffering from chronic diseases.
The two will benefit from a new fold-able wheelchair, along with special needs car seat.
Mr Melanie said Beau Vallon has been chosen for the first event as the date – last Sunday of February – coincides with the previously-held Eco-Healing Marathon which took place at the same venue and on the same date.
For this year, the third charity project, three individuals, along with one organisation are set to benefit from the funds raised.
Mr Melanie started the personal charity project in 2018 with the aim of raising funds for financially-struggling associations towards infrastructure development or other facilities to provide long-term support for Seychellois families and children.
He had previously successfully completed the ‘Run for a good cause’ and ‘We all have Dreams’ challenges where organisations such as the Unique Foundation, the Seychelles Stroke Foundation, the Seychelles Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the National Association for the Disabled benefitted financially, Samirah Sally received a prosthetic arm.
The challenges have also honoured several individuals, including Mr Melanie’s mother, the late Regina Melanie, as well as deceased athletes Arthur Agathine and Danny Beauchamp.
