Sicobo finishes sixth in 60m dash in 06.71 seconds
Local sprinter Dylan Sicobo, presently training in South Africa under an Olympic Solidarity scholarship, could only manage a sixth-place finish after clocking 06.71 seconds in the final of the 60m race at the Curro Podium Athletics Meeting held on Saturday at the Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria.
The most prestigious high school athletics event in Southern Africa, the Curro Podium Athletics Meeting hosted by Curro Hazeldean, gathered over 1500 promising athletes from 45 different schools across South Africa and Namibia.
The 60m race was won by Akani Simbine in 06.53 seconds, ahead of Rivaldo Roberts who was second in 06.62 seconds.
Thapelo Monaiwa was third overall in 06.63 seconds, ahead of Thembo Monareng who settled for fourth place in 06.67 seconds.
Clarence Munyai was fifth overall in 06.67 seconds, pushing Sicobo into the sixth overall spot.
To qualify for the final, Sicobo finished fourth in heat number two, clocking 06.72 seconds.
It is to note that athletes at this event could break national records (South Africa), since the event was approved by Athletics SA (ASA) and World Athletics, sanctioned by Gauteng North Athletics (GNA) and Supported by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
Participating schools include top sports-performing schools such as Paarl Boys High School, Menlopark Hoërskool, Paarl Gymnasium, Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool and Helpmekaar among others.
Six Curro schools, namely hosts Curro Hazeldean, Curro Thatchfield, Curro Nelspruit, Curro Krugersdorp, HeronBridge College and Windhoek Gymnasium in Namibia also took part in the event.
