Veronique Herminie is the new commissioner general of the Seychelles Revenue Commission and she received her instrument of appointment from President Danny Faure at State House, yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Vice-President Vincent Meriton, Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, secretaries of state, principal secretaries, the chairman and board members of the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) and Mrs Herminie’s two children.

Mrs Herminie has been appointed as commissioner general of the Seychelles Revenue Commission under Section 4 of the Seychelles Revenue Commission Act by the President on a three-year contract.

Mrs Herminie is a Certified Chartered Accountant and Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She is also an experienced negotiator having been involved in the European Union/Seychelles Fisheries Agreement negotiations and a number of double taxation agreement negotiations for Seychelles.

The new SRC commissioner general also boasts experience in legislative and policy reviews. She has had an enriching career spanning 30 years and covering various sectors including industries, land use management, land use planning, investment, taxation, financing and lending, auditing, energy, agriculture, fisheries, transport, tourism, environment and construction.

Talking to the press after receiving her document of appointment, Mrs Herminie said she is aware of the many challenges attached to her new job.

“I worked for SRC for five years from 2002 to 2006 and at the time I left I was the head of customs. I am looking forward to seeing my colleagues again. After that, I was appointed principal secretary for investment and industries for five years. After 20 years of service in the government, I joined PCU/GOS/UNDP as a programme coordinator for two years. I was a consultant with the Socièté Seychelloise d’Investissement (SSI) and then I joined the Islands Development Company (IDC). I followed the SRC through the media and before my appointment I also got some briefing about the current issues such as recruitment of staff, but together with the management, the staff and finance minister we will work through them together,” said Mrs Herminie.

Mrs Herminie also stated that she does not believe in the power of “me” but the power of “we” to make SRC better.
