International and national exam results met with mixed feelings

International and national examination results are out and students are converging at their respective schools to see how they have performed in last year’s exams.

The distribution of results started at 9am yesterday in every secondary school for the Secondary 5 (S5) students. The different school managements received the students’ results officially on January 18 at around 10am and were given the go-ahead by the Ministry of Education to distribute them yesterday.

Seychelles NATION visited some of the schools at around 9am were we noticed that some students were still awaiting their result slips, while some had already received it.

Cliven Azemia, a former S5 student at the English River school, said upon arriving at the school campus, he felt stressed and anxious as the thought of failure slowly crept into his mind, but all this dissipated as he received his result slip.

“I thought that I failed a few of my exams, it wasn’t easy, but I was shocked I actually passed all of them, even math,” he said.

Zara Farabeau, another English River student, said she felt relieved and well as soon as she completed the exams last year, but she felt the nerves going into January. However, she was satisfied with her results and can finally breathe and feel at ease.

For his part, Nathan Henderson shared that he was under a lot of pressure during these past few weeks while awaiting the results but he managed to receive satisfactory marks.

The distribution of results slips had not started a Mont Fleuri secondary school when Seychelles NATION reached the place. However the lobby was full with eager students awaiting their slips to see if they would be able to get into the post-secondary school of their dreams.

One of them still awaiting the results was Anisha Imaduwa, who shared that she had been stressed since the start of the year and was hoping to get into the school of her choice, Seychelles Business Studies Academy.

“I honestly do not know, but I did my absolute best, at the back of my mind I feel like I did badly but it might end up being good, I will just have to wait and see,” she said after being asked of her performance in her exams last year.

Seychelles NATION also spoke to the deputy of Studies at the Plaisance secondary school, Andy Morel, who said although he had not yet made an overall analysis of the students’ result, from what he had seen so far, the level of performance varies and students’ reactions are mixed.

“There are students who are satisfied upon receiving their results, there are also those who are not satisfied of course. There are even those who are shocked as their results had surpassed their expectations and we love to see that,” said Mr Morel.

He also said that things have been running smoothly since that morning but they will need to pick up the pace as students kept arriving at the school.

For those who did not get a chance to collect their slips yesterday, they can still do so today.

The accompanying photos show the students waiting to collect their results at various schools yesterday.
