Seychelles attends Creole Festival of Rodrigues

Seychelles was invited to attend the 23rd Creole Festival Rodrigues from December 7 -11, 2022, celebrated under the theme ‘Kreolite siman nou linite’.

The country’s delegation was headed by the secretary general of the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage & the Arts, David Andre.

Other members of the delegation comprised principal secretary Cecile Kalebi;  Jimmy Savy,  executive director of the National Arts and Craft Council; Flora Ben David, executive director of the Creole Academy; Julienne Barra, executive director Acquisition, Conservation, Research and Access to information; Margaret Raguin, director Event Section, Creative Seychelles Agency; Sophia Rosalie, senior international cooperation officer; and Najoie Philoé, senior liaison officer, Creative Seychelles Agency.

The Seychelles delegation attended the official opening ceremony on Wednesday December 7 under the theme ‘Lanwit Sega tambour’.

On Thursday December 8, Mr André and the officials from the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts led a forum of discussions on cultural values and sharing, and experience in the implementation of cultural policies at different levels.

During the Creole Festival Mr André met with deputy Chief Commissioner Franceau Grandcourt, and interim Commissioner for Art and Culture, Jean Alain Wong So, who is also the Commissioner for Tourism, for a working session to discuss renewed avenues for cultural exchange between the culture institute and its counterpart, the Commission for Art and Culture.

Before attending the Creole Festival Rodrigues, Mr Andre and senior executives of the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts also made a courtesy call on the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Mauritius on Tuesday December 6, 2022. The aim of the call was to officially introduce the new Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, as well as to finalise the cultural exchange memorandum of understanding which entails various avenues for cultural exchange, sharing of expertise, and lessons learnt on the promotion and development of arts and culture between Mauritius, Rodrigues and Seychelles.

The Seychelles delegation met with senior officials of the Mauritian's ministry that included the acting permanent secretary, Indira Pudaruth Ru​chaia.

Mr André also met with the Minister for Arts and Cultural Heritage of Mauritius, Avinash Teeluck, and they both expressed their commitment to reinforce the collaboration between their institutions.
