Appropriation Bill 2023 |10 November 2022

Second reading and general debate start today

The National Assembly resumes its session today with the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill, 2022, followed by the General Debate on the merit of the bill. The first member to speak is the leader of the opposition, Honourable Sebastien Pillay, followed by the leader of government business, Honourable Bernard Georges and other members.

Over 80 government departments and agencies as well as constitutional appointed bodies, will be before the National Assembly to present and defend their budget allocations for 2023.

The Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, presented the Budget address last Friday, announcing a series of measures which are expected to bring some relief to the population, following harsh economic challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

They include salary increase in April next year, and continued assistance for people receiving temporary support from the Agency for Social Protection, continued provision of breakfast for state schools, and an increase in stipends for students studying abroad and at the University of Seychelles
