The first Grand Open held at the Seychelles Golf Course at Au Cap last Saturday was a spectacular success.
A collaborative effort by Gran Kaz and ISPC, the golf tournament on Saturday was the largest scale golf tournament to be held on Mahe. Whilst the two companies had partnered up in the past to host similar tournaments, the Grand Open was an event the likes of which the golfing community of Seychelles had never seen before.
With special food and drink “villages” set up by the sponsors at various stations on the green and the green itself being open to the public on the day, the tournament aimed to be an inclusive event to be enjoyed by the whole family, one that would make golf more accessible to everyone.
The tournament, which was open to all members of the Seychelles Golf Federation, irrespective of age or gender, be they professional or amateurs, saw some 80 or so players on the green on Saturday. With the first set of competitors teeing off as early as 8am and the second set getting on the green at 1.30pm.
A prize-giving ceremony and celebratory dinner followed the tournament. Winners in the main category were treated to some amazing goodies:
In the individual category, Ken Zhou with 38 points walked away with a gorgeous trophy, playing credit and food and beverage vouchers courtesy of Gran Kaz; a GPS watch, a bottle of Bottega gold and a Nicolas Feuillate reserve exclusive courtesy of ISPC.
The runner-up in the individual category was Vishal Sewraj with 36 points, won on countback. He also took home some fantastic Gran Kaz vouchers, a lovely golf bag, a bottle of Bottega gold and a Brut 75 from ISPC.
Winsel Pothin (Sly) was the winner of the ladies’ category, and proudly walked away with a trophy, a 15-minute Zil Air scenic flight and vouchers all courtesy of Gran Kaz, GPS watch, a bottle of Bottega Petalo and a Nicolas Feuillate Rose 75 from ISPC.
In pairs the winners were Charlie Morin and Jake Searles with 70 points, winning each a beautiful trophy, a 15-minute scenic Zil Air flight and vouchers courtesy of Gran Kaz. And from ISPC a lovely set of drivers, a bottle of Bottega gold and a Nicolas Feuillate reserve exclusive brut.
In second place were Barry Clothilde and Roy Jean Baptiste, also with 70 points but lost on countback. They both walked away with vouchers from Gran Kaz, as well as a set of putters, a Bottega gold and a Reserve Exclusive Brut Nicolas Feuillate from ISPC.
Many other prizes were won on the night and spirits were high as the prize-giving gave way to dinner and entertainment.
With the first Grand Open such a resounding success, plans are already underway for the Grand Open 2023.
