ISPC brings AdEaters to Seychelles’ shores

ISPC Seychelles recently delighted local audiences with a unique first-of-its-kind experience, ‘The Night of the AdEaters’, at the Eden Bleu Hotel.

The event, a concept created by Jean Marie Boursicot some 40 years ago, has grown to become an unmissable event for advertising lovers across the globe, on all five continents.

For those less familiar with the event, The Night of the AdEaters celebrates advertisements from around the globe, and their ability to offer great moments of cinema – action, suspense, romance and humour.

Despite limited seating availability, the ISPC event drew in a large crowd for the night, which promised to be funny, fun, and full of surprises. With tickets priced at R300, local spectators were, as with other AdEeaters events being held around the globe, treated to a soirée of snacks, drinks, and, of course, exciting entertainment.

From the onset, each spectator was given a bag full of goodies including sunglasses, glow sticks, a funky hat, a clapper toy and whistle among others, in addition to tokens for food and drinks prepared on site by the ISPC catering team itself. On the menu were a variety of mixed-on-the-spot cocktails by experienced mixologists, fizzy champagnes, and a variety of savoury and sweet treats, including burgers, snack boxes, and a variety of Halloween-themed cupcakes and desserts. As with any cinematic experience, a popcorn stand was also on hand for those who like to follow the traditional route.

The all-night commercial film comprised a mix of advertisements; some new and some older, uncensored, unusual, historic, cultural, and even banned advertisements from around the globe, from a number of sectors and industries including aviation, luxury-fashion brands and much more. As the AdEater culture dictates, the room rumbled with thunderous applause for the best ads, as spectators were encouraged to cheer on their favourites and clap for their favourites using the clappers. Others which missed the point or simply did not please spectators were met with whistling.

Entertainment was not amiss with radio personality Sylvie Ah-Time better known as ‘Madame Franchement’ as the Master of Ceremony. The Emergency Crew dance team also put on a number of choreographed performances, also taking to the stage during the ad show. Also on hand was a magician who blew spectators away with a number of tricks up his sleeve.

Ashley Labonte attended the event along with a group of friends, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience.

“I learned about the AdEaters concept while visiting relatives in France a while back, and was so looking forward to the event when I learned it would be coming here to Seychelles. Considering it is the first time held here, it is such a different but fun experience. The concept may be something new to most people here, but it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience,” Ms Labonte stated.

Local entertainers Joseph Sinon and other singers joined the evening after the showing. The show was also scheduled for Praslin the following evening.

Over the past couple of months, a number of AdEaters events have been held around the world, starting off with a special edition in France on September 21, Kazakhstan and Switzerland.

Our selection of photos show some highlights of the evening.
