Female boxing bronze medallist Arianna Memee calls on President Ramkalawan |19 October 2022
Local female pugilist Arianna Memee who won a bronze medal in the 69kg category at the 2022 AFBC African Men’s and Women’s Championships in Maputo, Mozambique in September was welcomed yesterday morning at State House by President Wavel Ramkalawan.
Other than congratulating Memee for her achievement, the head-of-State also proposed different ways that the government can assist her in pursuing her career further.
President Ramkalawan also urged Memee to use her influence to attract more young girls into boxing, thus encouraging them to divert from existing social ills and negative lifestyle, toward a more positive and exemplary one.
It is worth noting that Memee has already been given ambassadors’ role so that she can share her exceptional commitment and ability with the younger and future generation of female athletes. It was Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Marie-Celine Zialor who entrusted on her these responsibilities during a courtesy call at the minister’s office at the Family House at Bel Eau recently in the presence of principal secretary for youth and sports Ralph Jean-Louis
Competing in the 69kg category, Memee started her journey at the championship in the quarterfinal where she beat Temnotfo Dlamini of Eswatini on points, before losing her semifinal fight by RSC (referee stopped contest) to Brigitte Mbabi of Congo.
