Flagless dhow arrives in Mahé |10 October 2022

  • Preliminary investigation of packages recovered reveals they contain heroine

 

A flagless dhow with eight crew members that was intercepted on Friday October 7, 2022 through a joint Seychelles Defence Forces operation, arrived in Mahé on Saturday at 12.30pm, escorted by patrol ship ‘Etoile’.

Preliminary investigation of the two packages recovered has revealed that they contain heroine.

The vessel and all other evidence gathered have been handed over to the Seychelles police for further investigation.

The dhow was detected by Seychelles Air Force (SAF) surveillance aircraft during a routine surveillance patrol and intercepted in the northeast of Mahé within the Seychelles exclusive economic zone in the early morning of October 7, 2022 by patrol ship ‘Etoile’.

During the process of interception and boarding, the crew of the dhow was seen to be dropping several packages overboard which is believed to be illegal substances.
