To mark the beginning of the third term, the Anse Etoile primary school is organising a series of activities to promote the joy of learning with fun during a three-day activity.

The activities were launched yesterday during a special assembly where each class from each grade performed songs and poems.

“Learning does not only take place on a chair in front of a chalk board, we as educators have to find ways to make learning fun for our students in order to keep them active and engaged,” said Alna Bacco, the language coordinator at Anse Etoile primary.

“These activities will show students that there are different ways that they can learn outside the classroom,” added Ms Bacco.

It is the first time such an activity is being conducted in the school on such a large scale.

Ms Bacco added that depending on how successful these three days of activities go, the school will then see if they can organise one each term.

Activities on the roster for the day included a spelling bee in both French and English where contestants were asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. Its purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts, and develop correct language usage.

Other activities included a quiz related to science and social studies as well as a mental test to assess the students’ knowledge on science and social studies.

The students are divided into groups based on their academic level for all activities

The activities will continue tomorrow.
