The solar heater at the home for the elderly
Despite not having an office on La Digue, Sacos recently responded to some requests for assistance from the elderly home and the primary school on the island.
The Home for the Elderly, at L’Union Estate on La Digue, was in need of a water heater and seeking support reached out to Sacos who did not hesitate to respond by donating a solar-powered water heater.
The water heater was officially handed over to Fleurange Morel, home administrator at the home for the elderly on Wednesday September 14.
Speaking at the handover, HR manager at Sacos, Joel Decommarmond, said: “As part of our continued commitment to give back to the community we believe the solar heater can significantly improve the comfort of the residents, while minimising environmental footprints.”
Within the scope of its corporate social responsibility strategy, Sacos stands firm in its commitment to preserve the environment by helping where it can to minimise its own as well as the community’s carbon footprint.
On behalf of the home for the elderly, Mrs Morel profusely thanked Sacos for its generosity, saying that this donation will go a long way towards maximising the comfort and wellness of the residents, while simultaneously allowing them to reduce some of their running costs, like electricity bills.
The Home for the Elderly is currently home to 3 residents.
A second donation was also made on La Digue that day, with Sacos proudly sponsoring an assortment of educational games to the primary school. These were gratefully received by Sodia Lesperance, principal of the La Digue primary school.
The donation was made as part of Sacos’ outreach programme to support childhood development and learning within the local communities.
“We may not have an office on La Digue,” says Nathanael Mothee, marketing executive at Sacos, “but assisting the communities there when they are in need is pivotal to putting our name out there, establishing a presence on the island and by doing so setting the pace for other companies to do the same.”
