Farewell call by Ambassador Khaled El Abyad on Minister Joubert |01 October 2022
Outgoing Egyptian ambassador Khaled El Abyad paid a farewell call on the Minister responsible for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, at the Secretariat of MACCE yesterday morning.
Mr Khaled El Abyad mentioned that Egypt is ready to help in training and capacity building of staff and both pre- and in-service training programmes which are essential to the ministry especially in the field of energy and agriculture.
Mr Khaled El Abyad and Minister Joubert briefly discussed Seychelles’ main objective in the upcoming COP27 which will be held in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt.
Mr Joubert commended Mr El Abyad for his efforts and support given in enhancing cooperation ties in various fields.
He declared that the training for internal staff comes at an opportune time since the ministry wants to revamp the agriculture department.
Minister Joubert also mentioned that Seychelles is currently setting up a climate council and a unit which will manage the objectives of the Seychelles National Determined Contribution (NDC). The ministry is currently reaching out to potential partners and identifying areas for collaboration which will help achieve the immediate goals of Seychelles when it comes to climate change.
Minister Joubert also outlined the need for Seychelles to join other small islands developing states (Sids) and African countries who are mostly affected by climate change in the upcoming COP27.
Towards the end of the discussions, Minister Joubert and Mr El Abyad exchanged views regarding renewable energy and how Egypt can provide further training for local technician as one of the main goals is to move towards long-term sustainable technologies.
