11 new scouts invested

Eleven scouts were invested by the Seychelles Scouts Association this week during a scout camp at the Anse Boileau primary school.

They received their scarf and badge after reciting their promise – “In my honour, I promise that I will do my best to God and to my country; to help other people and to keep the scout laws. They are our duties” – and affirming their commitment to the Scout Law.

This is an important step in the lives of the children. Investiture remind scouts that they are local, national, and international citizens. They are members of a scout family from across the world. They have responsibilities as scouts to others across the world and responsibilities to others in their local community, and to one another.

Marie-Helene Adrienne, commissioner for the North sector and also leader for Bel Ombre, noted that 10 students from Bel Ombre school and one student from Anse Boileau school were invested this week after proving themselves to be able to hold onto their promises.

“Once a week we recruit students to join the scout movement, where the participants learn different skills and how to camp.”

Currently there are 130 scouts around Seychelles – in the North, South, on Praslin and La Digue. Another group from Les Mamelles will be invested in December this year.

Gaella Azemia, 11 years old, shared that she joined the Seychelles Scouts Association activities when she was in P4. Now she is a scout, she has to be a role model.

Chris Luc, aged 11 years, said he achieved a great thing. “I am very happy as now I will help others and show respect to others in the society. I am also happy as we will be able to learn more through the different activities.”

The Seychelles Scouts Association also organised a five-day camp for 88 participants and after two years of absence it is resuming its activities with a blast.

The small ceremony was attended by mentors John Marie, Joe Hoareau, scouts leaders, parents and young scouts.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the investiture.
