Hospital wards return to their normal locations as Covid-19 eases out |20 August 2022

As of this week, post-natal care services for mothers and newborns have moved to their former locations inside the Seychelles Hospital.

The move has re-energized staff and patients alike.

“We have been waiting for two and a half years for this to happen,” they say.

Senior nurse manager at the Seychelles Hospital, John Dubel, states that Covid-19 and the renovation of the Male Medical Ward caused post-natal services to be squeezed and to share facilities with antenatal services for two and a half years. This put significant strain on patients and staff.

“Now that Covid has eased out a bit and renovation of the Male Medical Ward has been completed, all hospital facilities are returning to their normal locations in the hospital,” he said.

Dr Robert Michel, consultant in charge for obstetrics and gynaecology, concurred that the “return to normal” was much awaited by both patients and staff.

He showered praise and gratitude on all those who made this possible.

Just over 1600 babies are born every year and the majority of these mother-baby pairs pass through the post-natal ward of the Seychelles Hospital.
