Taxpayers can expect some temporary relief from long queues and congestion in paying their domestic taxes, with the establishment of a new Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) service counter at the Anse Royale’s PUC Customer Care Centre.

Effective as from tomorrow, August 19, the pilot project seeks to assess the feasibility for the tax-collecting agency to decentralise its services, starting with the southern east coast of Mahé.

The service is accessible to taxpayers for only two days per month, on specific dates revolving around the monthly tax payment deadline – the 21st day of each month. As such, the service counter will be open and operational on Friday August 19, as well as on Monday August 22, from 8.30am to 2pm.

Director for Taxpayers Education and Service Delivery Unit within the SRC, Sheryl Barra, noted that two SRC officers will be onsite to assist taxpayers in making the payments, and lodging their business activity statements (BAS).

“We are very appreciative of the support received from PUC in assisting us to test out this pilot project in an effort to see the viability of expanding our services across the southern area of Mahé, so as to bring taxpayers within the region closer to SRC,” Ms Barra said.

“We hope that taxpayers make ample use of the service counter and also hope that the step taken will further improve service delivery by alleviating constraints such as parking and long queues at the Providence and Victoria offices,” Ms Barra stated.

Domestic taxes for which payments can be made at the counter include income tax, value added tax (VAT), business tax, tourism marketing tax, as well as presumptive tax.

Also included are the pay as you go (PAYG) scheme, and taxes applicable to residential rent and immoveable property.

One of the biggest challenges faced by SRC at present is space constraints and having to handle large volume of taxpayers on payment days.
