The boys edge out Reunion 3-2 in third group match
The under-20 boys selection yesterday registered their first win at the Coupe des iles de l'Océan Indien presently taking place at the gymnase de Trois-Mares in Reunion, beating the host country’s selection number two.
The boys of coach Ruudy Joseph came back from two sets behind to edge out the hosts 3-2 after one hour and 58 minutes of play.
Reunion won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23, before the young local selection fought back to win the third set 25-16, cutting Reunion’s lead to 2-1.
Seychelles came out stronger in the fourth set, winning it 25-16, forcing the match into a fifth and decider set.
Eager for a win after two losses in their two prior matches, our boys came out stronger to upset the hosts 15-11 and win the match 3-2.
They will be in action today against Reunion selection one in the ranking match to decide third and fourth place finishers.
The match for first and second place finish for the boys will be contested between Reunion selection two and Mauritius.
It is to note that the boys lost their opening match 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 16-25) to Mauritius, before losing their second match on the same score against Reunion selection one.
The set scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-14.
In the girls’ competition, Seychelles lost 1-3 (19-25, 25-20, 15-25, 21-25) to Mauritius in their opening match, before losing 0-3 (10-25, 8-25, 14-25) against Reunion selection one.
In their third group match yesterday, the girls of coach Roy Dijoux lost 0-3 to Reunion selection two.
The set scores were 12-25, 15-25 and 6-25.
They will be in action today in the third and fourth ranking match against Mauritius.
The indoor tournament is being played on a league format, with group winners and runners-up playing the final, while the bottom two will battle for third place.
