Petanque : Men’s Tête-à-tête and women’s doublette competition

Auguste Louise takes home men’s top prize

  • Sheila Chang-Time and Marie-Ange Robert doublette winners

Auguste Louise is the grand winner of the men’s tête-à-tête competition organised by the Seychelles Petanque Association on Sunday at the La Promenade boulodrome, while the MBU duo of Sheila Chang-Time and Marie-Ange Robert took home the women’s doublette title.

A total of 18 male players registered for the tête-à-tête event, while only two full women’s teams signed for the doublette tournament.

In the men’s competition, the players were divided into five pools and the top two in each pool qualified for the quarterfinals.

The 10 quarterfinalists played in two pools of five before the top two in each pool progressed to the semifinals.

Collin Esparon, Malagasy Rhindra Rotolotonahazy, Roy Meriton and Auguste Louise were the four who advanced to the semifinals.

In the first semifinal, Louise eliminated Esparon, while in the second clash of the last-four, Meriton disposed of Rotolotonahazy to take the second final spot.

In the final, a more experienced Louise emerged victorious to take home the men’s tête-à-tête title.

In the women’s event which was played on a league basis, Chang-Time and Robert were up against Vivianne Finesse and Marie-May Savy of Beau Vallon, along with Sheila Haffner who was playing alone, starting her matches with a handicap.

With more points in the tournament which was played on a best of three series, Chang-Time and Robert were crowned champions, finishing ahead of the Finesse and Savy duo, and Haffner.
