TiS recognises government’s policy of zero tolerance to corruption
“Today (July 11), the African continent commemorates Africa Anti-Corruption Day.
July 11 was earmarked seven years ago as the date which African Union member states would come together to collectively remind the continent on its stance on corruption.
“A statement has been released by Transparency International to all African Union leaders – it is enclosed.
“In view of this year’s theme and focus on the management of Covid-19 Funds, Transparency Initiative Seychelles would like to make the following statement;
“Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TiS):
1. Welcomes the audit report of the Auditor General on FA4JR scheme which was put in place to tackle the economic downturn brought forth by the Covid pandemic;
2. Calls on the government to take the necessary steps to recover any funds which have been misappropriated or fraudulently claimed under the FA4JR scheme;
3. Encourages for the audit of the Covid-19 funds by the government so as to reassure the general public and donors that there were no misappropriation or fraudulent use of funds;
4. Reiterates our proposal to the government to consider a standalone whistleblower legislation;
5. Encourages the government to continue its effort to establish and consolidate a system for merit based public service.
6. Calls on the government to consider measures to tackle misinformation and disinformation;
7. Recognises the stance of the government on a policy of zero tolerance to corruption and its effort to improve on legislative framework to address corruption.”
