Golfers on the newly constructed bridge

Young golfer Reshab Sewraj is the winner of the first Airtel Golf Cup with 39 points, beating veterans Godfroy Andrade and Guy Adam who took the runner-up position and third place on a count back as they all had the same score.

On Saturday June 25, the Seychelles Golf Club welcomed back the Airtel golf competition in style. The event kicked off with the inauguration of the Airtel bridge, a project fully sponsored by the telecom company to facilitate access of golfers on the field. During the ceremony attended by the competitors and Airtel staff, Amadou Dina, managing director and chief executive of Airtel Seychelles, announced that this competition will now be an annual open event and henceforth will be known as the Airtel Golf Cup.

After the short ceremony, over 50 golfers kicked off the competition, all going for gold and looking forward to win exciting prizes sponsored by the company.

At the end of the day, results came in and young golfer Reshab Sewraj won the first ever Airtel Cup with 39 points, beating veterans Godfroy Andrade and Guy Adam who took the runner-up position and third place on a count back as they all had the same score. Reshab Sewraj’s back nine score gave him the edge over the rest of the field.

Fourth place went to Louis Vandagne and fifth was Etienne Venter.

Best gross went to resident club pro William Weidner who due to his status was allowed to compete in this category by the sponsor. He edged Richard D’Offay on a count back after they both shot a level par 67 or 36 points on that day.

Two more prizes were also given out ‒ nearest to the pin hole 7 won by Richard D’Offay and longest drive hole 14 won by Jerry Jean-Baptiste.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Mr Dina thanked the golfers for their participation and issued a personal invitation to each and every golfer, family members, friends and business partners to take this opportunity to know more about the only Tier 3 Data Centre in Seychelles which is strategically located at Airtel's main office, the Airtel House, Perseverance and make full use of this service and every advantages that come with it.

On behalf of the golfers, both club captain Vishal Sewraj and Ishtaiq Adam, member of the Seychelles Golf Federation, congratulated Airtel's managing director for such a successful competition and thanked the company for supporting the Seychelles Golf Club and Seychelles Golf Federation, investing for the betterment of the golf course for the benefit of not only golfers registered with the Seychelles Golf club but for all golfers who make use of the only golf course on Mahé.
