Chinese embassy supports beach protection events at Grand Anse Mahé

A series of beach protection events were held in the Grand Anse Mahé district on June 17 with the strong support of the Chinese embassy.

Chinese ambassador to Seychelles, Guo Wei, unveiled the newly installed beach protection bill boards, planted trees, and had a walk following the Grand Anse Mahé beach together with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Roger Mancienne, the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Energy, Flavien Joubert, member of the National Assembly for the Grand Anse Mahé district Waven William, young diplomats of the Chinese embassy, teachers and students of the district’s primary school.

The beach protection project, mainly supported by the Chinese embassy, is aimed at creating a sense of awareness of environmental protection for the public and promoting a clean, healthy and sustainable environment and lifestyle.

Ambassador Guo hailed the successful launch of the project, saying that the Chinese side attaches great importance to Seychelles’ environmental protection, education, and the cooperation with the Seychelles government as well as the districts.

“The two countries have enjoyed deep and traditional friendship. During the past 46 years, China has made joint efforts with Seychelles by providing government assistance for its economic and social development. All these have resulted in fruitful outcomes, such as the National Assembly building, the Palais de Justice, the Glacis primary school and scholarships offered to Seychellois students, among others. China has also provided support to members of the National Assembly in their districts’ projects such as the playgrounds at Anse Royale and Baie Ste Anne,” said Ambassador Guo.

She believes the beach protection project will play an important role in promoting sustainable development in this district.

She also expressed China’s willingness to contribute within its capacity to the district, and to strengthen the cooperation in various fields with Seychelles side in the future.

Also celebrated at the ceremony were the launch of Grand Anse Mahé’s Environment Protection Association, and the 21st anniversary of the district’s primary school.

Pupils of the school performed folk songs and moutya dance to welcome the guests.

Ambassador Guo together with Speaker Mancienne and Minister Joubert presented awards to the outstanding teachers.
