Gran Kaz Kings (division one) and GSP 7 - A (division two) are the winners of their respective categories of the MSC / Enjoy Super League T20 after winning the finals played on Sunday at the Persévérance ground.
GSP 7 - A beat SL United in the division two final to clinch the Enjoy Super League T20 cup.
Winning the toss, SL United opted to bat first and scored 101/10. Thimeera Madhusanka 33(40), Lahiru 18(22) and Rashen 17(22) were the best among the bowlers. Bhavesh Hirani and Karthik of GSP 7 - A each grabbed 2 wickets.
Upon chasing the target, GSP 7 - A batsmen Selvakumar 45(33) and Karthik25(22) gave their team a solid start by making a partnership of 66 runs and making things easy for them. At 14.2 overs GSP 7 - A managed to register victory in their debut tournament. Rashen De Silva grabbed 2 wickets for SL United.
Selvakumar Thirumal was selected as player-of-the-match.
In the afternoon’s encounter, Gran Kaz Kings clashed with Vijay Warriors in the division one final of the MSC Super League T20 Cup. Victory went to Gran Kaz Kings.
Winning the toss, Vijay Warriors opted to bat first. Gran Kaz Kings’ bowlers were striking hard and removed some early wickets to put pressure on the Warriors, but a short cameo partnership between Kaushal Patel (6) and Lalji Hirani (20) helped them set a target of 59 runs.
Upon batting, the opening pair of Tim and Islam batted responsibly to take Gran Kaz Kings to victory at 11.1 overs without losing any wickets. Tom Wilson of Gran Kaz Kings was selected as the player-of-the-match.
This was followed by the presentation ceremony and present were Mohan Chetty, owner of Mohan Shopping Centre; M. Manikandan, owner of Enjoy Supermarket; Dr Murthy Pillay, owner of Team Deevas Kings; Ramesh, ex-chairman of the Seychelles Cricket Association; Suranga, owner of Island Sea Bird; and Bertram, a veteran cricket player.
They all distributed the awards, medals and trophies to different players for their achievements.
In his vote of thanks, Seychelles Cricket Association chairman Kaushal Patel thanked all the sponsors, the previous committee and the tournament director for completing this tournament successfully.
He also thanked the volunteers who are coordinating the development of kids’ and women’s cricket by organising practise sessions and friendly matches on Saturdays for them. He also stated that soon there will be special tournaments organised for children and women.
Mr Patel mentioned that the SCA plans to organise a T-10 league on Saturday afternoon for senior men. Also he stated that the senior men will soon be preparing for the upcoming international tour to Rwanda in November-December 2022 to take part in the Africa sub regional qualifier group B for World Cup T20 2024.
Meanwhile, as a result of the previous tour, Seychelles has climbed up the international ranking to number 62 in the International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s T20 ranking.
